Here in this video I am going to repair one 9V power supply used for router. This is a basic electronic repair which is a must to understand if you are dealing with repair or electronics. Normally power supplies are going bad due to aging or due to overloading in the secondary circuit. They became a little complex due to their switch design. As in the older days the power supplies were using regular transformers, rectifiers, smoothing capacitors and sometimes a linear regulator. Those were relatively simple and straight forward designs. Now a days the requirements are a bit different so demands are also different. With the advent of electronics these switching regulators are every where and cheaper also. There other benefits are the are light weight and efficient also. The down side is understanding their repair. They are a little risky in repair as there is hot and cold sides for them. Hot side can’t be touched as that is on mains potential. Anyhow the repair is not that difficult if you understand the design of one power supply. They have nearly the same configuration for most make and model with little or no changes. Some times repair is not possible due to the unavailability of the spare parts required. The use switch IC which is switching at frequencies from 30khz to 150khz. As regulator switch they use a bipolar transistor or MOSFET. The control is done using PWM. In PWM as you know the pulse width is varying for controlling the output voltage. The transformer is very tiny and small due to very high frequency operation.
